Bloody Mary Rim Salt Review

Our alcohol consumption has definitely increased this year. We’ve been drinking A LOT of Bloody Marys, some of which were bottled mixes and some we made from scratch. Regardless of how your Bloody Mary is made, one easy way to kick it up a notch is by adding a rim salt / seasoning (called a ‘rimmer’) to the top of your glass.

Rim salts go perfectly with almost any Bloody Mary or Michelada. They are so easy to apply to your glass and they look amazing. You and your Bloody Mary (or Michelada) will definitely get major street cred. Plus, you can use any leftovers as a seasoning on meats, fish and shrimp.

Today we’ll review some of our favorite rim salts.

Demitri’s Bloody Mary Seasoning offers two flavors of rim shot. Their “Original Rim Shot" and the “Bacon Rim Shot.” We sampled the "Bacon Rim Shot" because, duh - it's bacon! This Rim Salt is chock full of bacon flavor – which we love. We also taste a slight smokiness and a subtle citrus flavor. All of this adds a really nice aroma to the cocktail. We love the amber brown color of this rim salt. It reminds us of – you guessed it – bacon. Because this rim salt is all about the bacon, it makes a great addition to almost any Bloody Mary and would be perfect for that bacon lover in your life.

4 ounce tin is $11.45, available here.

Devil Dave’s makes two varieties of Rimming Salt – Spicy Dill Pickle and Burnt Bacon.

The Spicy Dill Pickle is tangy and BOLD! If you love pickles, then this one is for you. Perfectly balanced, plus it packs a small punch with a heat level of 7/10, thanks to the granulated dried habanero. Speaking of granules, we love the thickness of these granules which add a great texture to the rim and cocktail. This would be a great addition to a traditional Bloody Mary that you want to take to the next level.

Burnt Bacon is aptly named, it tastes like crispy burnt bacon and bbq sauce. It has a nice sweetness. It’s sweet and smokey, with the faintest hints of Paprika. A touch of zesty lemon balances out the sweetness. SO much flavor on this Rimming Salt that it would make a great topper to a traditional Bloody Mary.

4 ounce tin is $10.29, available here.

Savor & Salt Offers FIVE flavors of Bloody Mary salt: Jamaican Jerk, Nashville Hot, Ancho Citrus, Dill Pickle, & Burnt Ends BBQ. With such mouthwatering flavors, it was hard to choose which to try. We love us a good pickle so we went with Dill Pickle Salt. This fresh, clean tasting salt adds dill and vinegar and other lite spices like mustard seed and celery to the mix. This is a Chicago based company and this rim salt reminds us of the Windy City - with the mustard and the dill. Not as overpowering as the other salts, so I think this would work fabulously on almost any Bloody Mary mix – traditional or otherwise. All five of their Bloody Mary salts together would make an insane holiday gift. Speaking of holidays, each Bloody Mary box from The Bloody Mary Festival – Holiday Box comes with this Dill Pickle Salt!

4 ounce bag is $10, available here.

How to add a rimmer to your glass:

  1. Rub the rim of your glass with a lemon or lime wedge. Go nice and thick – ½” to 1” down. Pro tip: Use honey instead of citrus for a thick, sweet coating!

  2. Open the bag of rim salt and pour contents into the container it came in or pour about 1 ounce onto a small flat plate.

  3. Turn the cup upside down and press into the plate / container and twist.

  4. Add ice to cup, then vodka, then your mix. stir with a spoon. Add garnish. Enjoy!
